Recently a news came out that a young girl of age 26 has died because of toxic work culture in EY India. EY is a big brand and a lot of people want to work in it because of its brand name. But the problem is when you get inside the company you have to work in a toxic work environment.

That young girl was a Chartered Accountant and was working more than 15 hours a day. She joined EY just 4 months back and after 4 months, she died because she could not handle so much pressure because of the toxic work culture. Yeah I know, people would say that why she haven't left. But leaving an organization which is your first job isn't easy an thus you have to work like what other are doing.
The problem is working more is normalized in India, if you are sitting for more hours than it is perceived that you are a hard worker. But the problem is that is not true, people sit for long hours just to show off and because of some, the whole team have yo suffer.
I had also a manager, who was asking everyone to stay late in office because that one employee was sitting. And that increases our tike in office like anything. I was lucky to get out of that project.
My current company is little better because there are only occasional instances where I have to clock long hours otherwise it is a chill environment. Having stressful or long hours do take a toll in your life and that can kill you sooner or later. It happened in 4 months for that young employee and I know someone who lost her life of life after 15 years of working in IT. It was a heart attack and that is because of the stress.
