In India politicians lure voters by providing free stuff. Like in Karnataka state of India, the government is giving free electricity, free bus, Rs 2K to people living below poverty lines and what not. This has halted the development work in the state.

Bangalore provides so much money to the government but still we are not getting the infrastructure we need, there is potholes which is not been filled after numerous complains. The pace of the development is slower than the snail pace. And along with that the prices of other things are increasing like anything.
For example, the Karanataka government has increased the petrol prices by Rs 3, property stamp duty price by 50%, college fees by 10% (indirectly taking from private instutions), bus fare by 15% and electricity by 35%. So whoever is not getting the stuff for free has to pay almost double the amount I.e. compensating for the freebies.
The freebies culture is nothing but giving extra burden to the normal people that is exactly meaning taxing more to give some free stuff. And thus with no infrastructure and also paying 35% direct tax and a lot of indirect taxes. Instead if giving is for free, give some work for the common people and get something back. If they can earn money it is much more than giving stuff for free.
I am happy to support the people who are not able to feed their family but as a taxpayer I too need something in return instead of giving almost 50% of what I earn. It's like I am working half the days for the government and half the days for the family and not earning enough for me. And I will blame the politicians because they have to win at any cost and because of that common people suffers.
