Everyone of us makes investment mistakes and that's is actually good. Because you learn from it. But if you are not learning from that mistakes then it's bad. I too have done many investment mistakes in my early days and I have learned my lessons. The problem is that we have so many information around us and thus with so much information we tend to try so many things to get quick money. And the quick money is the trap.
For example, we usually think, to grow our money faster we have to invest in asset which grows rapidly. But the problem is that when we invest in riskier assets we can lose considerable amount of money too. We always thing about the returns but never think about increasing our investment. The first step towards earning more money is to invest more money. The returns is secondary, the amount of money you can invest can easily help you to earn more money.
If you are investing just Rs 1K and thinking that your 1K will become Rs 10K in less time then sorry to say that this mistake almost all of us have done in our life. But Rs 10K to Rs 20K is achievable if you take considerable risk. So as a begineer we all have to think about increasing our investment rather than increasing our returns.
Next is getting into real estate too soon. As an Indians, we have a emotional connection on having our own home but the problem is that people take huge loan/debt for the same and that derails most of the peoples investment journey. I too have done this mistake, and because of that I have got a huge loss. But now I am happy that I have learned the lesson well in advance and the loss is not that high. But if I would have done the same mistake now, it would be catastrophic for my investment journey.
