Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to switch up my Wednesday post from the Walk to some Wine!
While we are doing all kinds of stuff packing our house up in preparation for our move, one of the things that we knew in the back of our minds kind of but didn't really pay much attention to, were the different things that we had stored in the kitchen!
When my wife and I went to Italy which was unfortunately many years ago now at this point, one thing we knew we needed to do was bring back some amazing mementos! One of the mementos is this box here! We went to several wineries and did some tours, the typical things one would do when you go to the Tuscany region of Italy. I web searched the winery and I'm very excited to see that they are still in business! here is their site!
This is a small collage of pictures of what you can find on the web if you search "abbadia ardenga winery montalcino italy" (hint @albuslucimus you can earn some PRE for this :D) that bring me back to the incredible time we had when we were there! The winery is truly picturesque Italy and Brunello di Montalcino is one of my absolute favorite wines ever. We drank both of the bottles that went into this box originally so I don't want to go too deep into that since this one is about Chianti lol
What was funny on the trip is we bought 2 bottles of the above Brunello di Montalcino and were behind someone that bought several more but the guy was a rich doctor or something (he brought his side piece to Italy, what a swell guy lol left his wife at home) and he spent a considerable amount more money than we did. He made his purchase and strolled off. We got up and was our turn and I don't remember if I asked the guy in Italian or not (I was there for an abroad program so my Italian was actually pretty good!) but I asked him if there was any way we could get a box to put the wine in to have a memento but also preserve it better on the plane ride home and such. He said absolutely and handed me this thing for 5 Euro! I was fucking pumped lol
The craftsmanship is incredible on this and I'm unbelievably happy that I took the extra time to be a little bold and ask for it instead of just going with whatever they were going to give me.
Right now we have these two bottles of Chianti sitting in there waiting to be cracked open. I am saving them for when my wife gets over the stuff that she's going through and can enjoy a nice glass of wine with me, hopefully in our new house but that's a whole other can of worms!
Chianti is definitely one of my favorite less expensive styles of wine. It can be pricey, I saw some bottles going for 75$ or more but these were I think 25$ each so it was pretty reasonable. Wine from Italy is also rated, with DOCG being the highest rating followed by DOC then IGT. Each has their own specific rating for the quality. We learned so many things about wine and the culture when we were there that it makes me happy to have these small mementos around the house to remind us of the wonderful time we had there!
