Today I wanted to lament on trickiness of IT systems!
Trouble in Paradise
This post is one that occurs every year or so, well on a more specific schedule.
I'm talking about post hard-fork issues! :D
Thankfully we only have one, two at most, hard forks in a given year. Unplanned ones such as after a code change that goes sideways, have happened. For the most part though, Hard Forks are a decent part of the blockchain game and process here. What is funny in some ways but frustrating in others, is when things go sideways after a hard fork!
There are much more important things in life than to fret about this but when the chain is having issues, it messes up my rhythm! Lol
We all know that computers and systems are infallible right?! Ha, well jokes aside, I've got some personal experience with IT systems of various kinds and when things go sideways, it's what we can do to bring the ship back to an even keel that are important.
With the hard fork, thankfully it largely went off without a hitch which is great! What occurs here and there though, are some node issues. I've had issues with various nodes over the past few days and now it looks like hive.blog and some other nodes are having issues. R'uh r'oh! I largely don't mind this as it doesn't have a massive impact on me other than that, occasionally, like today, my post gets messed up! Lol. I had a post scheduled, a fun ol' #threetunetuesday post at that! I log in to check on things and see if I've gotten any comments but sadly no notifications..
I go to my posts tab but don't see it, in fact I got an error when I tried that lol. So then I go to my scheduled posts tab and check there but the post is gone! Damn.. now it looks like the post is out there lost in the ether and might post when the node that it was originally on catches up, hopefully it's not in a day or two when I've already got one scheduled and it messes things up for me from an organized perspective lol.
As I said though, these issues are small potatoes compared to so many things in life and I think it's okay to complain about a small thing once or twice!
