Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today the little man and I are going to share the snake that we caught unexpectedly!
Snaked The Snake
When the little man and I are out on adventures, there's no telling what kind of trouble we will be getting into LOL this time is no different! :D
When him and I went fishing the other day, we were exploring around the area that we were at and it wasn't really a good day for fishing. We weren't getting any fish, not even a nibble and we were walking around to see if we could find another spot to go and throw a couple casts out. While we were walking, I seem to have pretty good peripheral sensory vision and I saw something squirm over to one of my sides and heard the rustling in the leaves so I looked quick! If you can find what I'm looking at in the picture, you might win a little something for reading the text of the post here :D and pointing out where it's at!
This little fella was not entirely thrilled to be picked up! Thankfully the little man and I were both very gentle with it and were handling it quite nicely! I think it pooped on us when we were trying to hold it hahaha I don't blame it though, it was trying to do anything to get out of our hands lol. I was surprised though, the whole time it was up in the air with us it didn't try to bite us at all! I would've thought that it would've tried to give us one or two bites to let us know that it meant business and to let em go.
Thankfully this was just a little garter snake, but I spent my whole life calling it a garden snake because that sounds better. It's funny the things that we call things that isn't accurate but it just sounds better. I guess it might be good to know the origins of the name garter snake for me to appreciate that's what its name is. One day I'll figure it out lol
He was flicking his tongue out quite a bit! I know he was trying to get a sense of us and if we were a threat to him or not. He was definitely a little agitated but overall it was a trooper and didn't give us too much of a hassle.
It was hard to get a really good picture of him but we did get a nice clear one here! It wanted to give us one good snap so that it can get posted :D I was glad for that. When we put the little fella back down on the ground, and it started to scoot away the little man went after it and tried to pick it back up. This is when the little fella gave a nice snap and gave him a bite! Thankfully it doesn't have teeth or anything and the little man had his gloves on but he was pretty shook up by that hahaha. I was shocked that it didn't do that until that point but it was not interested in being picked back up and handled again so it gave us a pretty good warning to back off!
I only grabbed the snake because I knew it was a garter snake and not one that was poisonous. I know there are quite a few snakes out there that are poisonous so I try to stay away from them as much as I can, as we don't need to take unnecessary risks lol. It was good to be able to show the little man the snake though, this was one of the first snakes we've been able to handle ourselves! We've seen a number of snakes in our journeys but never got the chance to pick one up like this. It was a good learning experience for him!
