Today I wanted to laugh a little bit about one of the things we did on a recent trip and going to the zoo!
Smaller Zoos Are Cooler
Sometimes it's the small things in life that really are interesting.
When we went on a recent trip a few weeks back, my wife was looking for something to do with the little man and it was our first time being in the area. There were a couple zoo's nearby so she decided to check one out on one day, the other one on another day. It's funny how things happen though!
You'd expect the zoo that's bigger to be the one that was more interesting, right? Well in this case it was by far not! I wasn't there since I was working of course but both of them reported that the zoo that was 10 minutes away from the hotel we were staying at was far better than the one that was an hour away!
There were a lot less exhibits in the smaller zoo but for our son, he loves to get up in the action! He's all about being there as close to something as he can be safely. The bigger zoo had a lot of attractions but it was mostly just things where you stood back and looked at the animal. The smaller one here you were able to get right in the bird cage!
These were certainly well mannered birds otherwise you couldn't go in the cage but that was the best part about it. You could get right up there and feed them right from your hand! He was all about that, that's for sure. I think my wife ended up buying like 4 or 5 of the little cups of food instead of just 2 lol he was having a lot of fun feeding the little peckers!
There was the occasional aggressive bird though. This one here he tried to feed and it enjoyed it but it also snatched the cup of food right out of his hand! It spilled most of the seeds all over the ground of course, and a few birds came flying over to eat them up but it was a funny moment for sure. One that we thankfully captured with a decent short clip to remember it by in the future.
I don't know the name of these birds but they were pretty damn cool! They were great at talking and were even cat calling my wife lol she was a little flattered I think hehe. They would say hello and goodbye, and I think had a bit of sass to them as well with a "shut up" or something lol
One of the highlights though for the little man was seeing some gators! He loves danger for whatever reason and gators are right up his alley. He is fascinated by them and hopefully he doesn't turn into another Steve Irwin, going out there hunting them left and right. We've got enough stress in our lives lol
In all, the trip to the zoos were a lot of fun for the both of them but it was kind of amusing that the zoo that was far closer and smaller ended up being a way more interesting experience for them! Usually where we live now, the smaller zoos aren't nearly as cool as the bigger ones. Goes to show that sometimes, things aren't always what they appear I would say!
