Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to explore the area I’ve worked at a fair amount recently, especially since it’s been a bit since I have! The weekend ended up being busier than I realized!
One of the things I enjoy about working in the city when I can is the industrial stuff to it. The cargo container area was cool to see in action. I’ve seen it from afar but never up close! I think it would be cool to be over there one day with our son to let him watch how it works but I don’t know if it’s a secure area or not. Give that it’s in the city of Boston they might be strict but I will have to give it a try when there’s less hysteria going on.
The containers were actively being unloaded so that was cool. The machines doing it were very smooth and efficient! I always imagined they would be but until you see them to you are kind of unsure of things.
There was also a cool cruise ship that was being fixed at the dry dock. I like that I see things like this still going on because they are important for the local economy to have these companies fix things in our harbor. One of the really big things that was very important for the local economy for its day was the Charlestown navy yard. It brought tens of thousands of military and civilian jobs to the local area and was a huge blow when they closed it down. Manual labor is often being discounted or cut but it’s important, even more so then the fancy office jobs that so many rely on.
It’s cool how close you can get to the edge of the pier and the water around here. It actually surprises me more than anything, if there’s one thing that the local area is full of its snowflakes that can’t get out of their own way lol their answer to everything is closing down or blocking off things that are common sense not to do like get too close to the edge otherwise you’re going for a dip!
There are quite a few people who fish here often, I think the last time I was here there were also some people fishing so it must be a spot where you can catch a decent one. It was nice there was a dad with his young child, about 5 or 6 sitting next to their car waiting for the pole to hit.
The cranes on both sides of the ship were going. I wonder how many containers that were on the ship but there had to be at least a few hundred of them I could see, unknown amounts below deck as well!
I also imagine that there were a few tugboats that had to push the ship sideways which is cool, because the way the cranes are positioned the ship needed to go in sideways I think otherwise it would hit the cranes with the navigation cabin at the very top.
Some pretty cool warehouses that I would love to explore!
Here is the section that I was going to show Tom, the other side of the giant cement stacks! There was also this cool navy looking vessel that was there, I wasn’t sure what it was. It wasn’t very big but it had a military look to it. I don’t think it was a submarine but you never know.
These things do seem to be some massive storage containers. I don’t want to tag Tom out of the blue but hoping he checks it out and let’s me know. It was cool to drive next to them though on this side, those seem like they store something and pump it out. I would have thought though if it was diesel fuel that they would have been in a different container but I’m not too educated on those things yet!
Besides that fun double shift I picked up on Saturday, we had a nice time with some family on Sunday so our weekend filled up quicker and we ended up eating, showering and sleeping more than we spent at home lol. What did y’all do this weekend? Anything interesting?!
