I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of downtime for the kids. They are just shoved in front of a tablet or computer and left to roam. That will do some things but it will NOT foster problem solving skills and imagination. I think it's a combination of "by design" by the powers that shouldn't be, and accidental effect of constantly pushing forward and just doing what draws the attention. Obviously we are a critical junction, where on the one hand, a LOT of people are basically those fat people in the movie Wall-E just drinking their slop in the chair, and on the other we have people really trying to make it as much as possible. The fat chair people I think are currently winning the battle of balance which is certainly a scary notion.
