Today I wanted to appreciate the refreshed love I have for hobby train sets!
I went to some family's recently and one of the highlights of the time there is absolutely the hobby train set that he's got in his basement! Damn it was a lot of fun being there and exploring the landscape and trains with him and having my son there with me! Trains are absolutely one of his favorite things to play with when he gets the chance!
I loved turning the photos of the trainset into black and white ones, they really capture it in a different way that brings out something special I think! Looking at the buildings back there in black and white is pretty damn cool, and that bridge and stuff. Love seeing it, makes it feel like a real old American Western movie set!
The detail that he undertook with the train set here is incredible. Having the building there itself is pretty cool but then adding the little puffs of smoke that were represented by tufts of cotton was amazing lol I loved seeing the various hidden gems all over the place! It really was a lot of fun to look around and try to transport myself and imagination into the train set here as a little figurine.
He still has a lot of work that he wants to do to it all but he has already done so many cool things. Building truss bridges like this and adding the real-life details like rocks glued to it, painting water and having trees and stuff just brings me completely back to childhood and the giant set that he had at his other house before he moved. I couldn't imagine how long it took him to take all of that down! He did give a lot of it to his grandson which is awesome, a way to keep the tradition going in the family that's for sure!
I'm looking forward to spending more time there next year that's for sure!
