Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to express some positive thoughts on being here on Hive and what that could mean for our sons future finances.

Hive Savings for Kids

If you're a parent, one of the things that you are definitely doing, at least I would hope, is doing what you can to save for your child's future. It doesn't have to specifically be in anything grand but saving for them so that they can have something when they come of proper age is a great step to doing what we can to help them along their journey.

The other day I don't know why it didn't dawn on me to do it sooner but I started our son, thelittleman@thelittleman, a Hive account. I don't plan on posting much on it, maybe a post or two here and there and certainly nothing of his face the way I still do myself on my posts but I felt it was a great and prudent idea to get something started.

I know that people on here like Taraz have an account for the kid, Smallsteps, but for some reason I didn't spend much time thinking about getting our son set up with one. I think the other day when we were going over some finance stuff I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one going for him and trying to fund it a little bit each week. I am hoping to see if I can add 1 HBD per week to the savings account there. It's not guaranteed that's for sure but even having 30 or 40 HBD per year in the savings account is going to go a long way.

With some decent interest right now, 12% according to the wallet page on PeakD, and another great financial guy on here TaskMaster, I know that the compounding interest on that HBD every month is by and large a lot better than putting it as cash in the bank or other investments.

I also know that one day, if things work out, I'll be able to show him some of the thousands of posts I've put out, our fun adventures and just the things that I write that's on my mind. It would be cool to eventually surprise him with a hefty chunk of change that's sitting there for him.

One of the things that I've read in a few places that really resonates with me is to not give him that type of stuff as soon as he turns 16 or 18 like it's shown in movies and shit. That's not really setting him up for success in life, starting off adulthood with a decent amount of money. It's important to be successful, have a job and a direction in life before any of these extras are presented. I've worked hard in my life, not as hard as others have in poor countries that's for sure but hard in my own right, working many and long hours. I think that everybody should go through that in life so they realize what hard work is and what hard work does to motivate you to be somebody better and do something good with your life. Nothing says "fuck this, I need a different job" like working in 90 degree heat for 8-10 hours doing hard labor.
