Challenges to Straighten Teeth Early

Being your own advocate is so crucially important these days, particularly when it comes to seeking treatment!

We have been searching for some treatment options to improve our sons teeth structure. Like so many kids in the world today, my son has teeth that aren't growing in straight and that's got a whole host of reasons that we likely don't even know of, but it also has quite a few health implications for him in the long run. Thankfully it's nothing horrible and going to cause all kinds of nastiness, but it's certainly something that we are trying to get ahead of now, while there is good time to correct it.

The issue lies in that when teeth grow in crooked and crowded, it's a sign of poor jaw bone growth and mouth structure. The teeth are all in there and if the jaw isn't forming out properly, they are going to have a tough time coming out. We don't think that pulling the teeth out is a good option because that itself also comes with a whole host of negative issues and consequences that are so frequently not talked about, and definitely not in as much detail as it should be.

The big issue and concern with pulling the teeth, which is also present for anyone who gets teeth pulled, is what is called a "cavitation". What a cavitation basically is is a hole in the mouth that wasn't fully sealed and also wasn't fully cleaned out of the jaw ligaments and other components. This means that there is always a little pocket of tissue that is there and if it doesn't fully heal and close, it will build up bacteria and cause a whole host of health issues down the line and take quite a bit of work to figure out where the issue lies. This is something that a lot of good dentists are discovering, and trying to educate their patients on finding and fixing. source. The also sad part about it is that it's mostly holistic and whole-body dentists who are paying attention to this, and the dentists that the average person is going to visit have no idea about it, or don't believe that it's true and reject it.

We've been going to numerous dentists and orthodontists, shopping around at different places to see who will give us the treatment we are looking for based on our research, and who will also be able to do it within budget. Those two things are seemingly pretty difficult to find! We've been through four so far, and it hasn't gone in the manner we want it to. This is challenging because we are trying to clean this situation up as much and quickly as we can, given that the ages we need to do this by before the jaw bone stops growing are coming up in the future so we want to get these things corrected now.

The good part about what we are doing is that there are many dentists and orthodontists that do understand and agree, through extensive research over the past few decades, that correcting these teeth issues now is in the best interest of the child and the parents. The challenge is that the treatments and costs vary quite a bit, making it difficult to find the right one.. Thankfully my wife has found some great online support communities of parents who have been through similar things so we are getting some good pointers on it all! We have some things we are following up on, so all hope is not lost but damn is this more work than we wanted it to be!

If we weren't selective and my wife wasn't doing such a good job advocating for what we need, then we would have made a poor financial decision already and allowed one of these sub-par dentists take our money and give us a treatment plan that wasn't what is best for us, in order to just make some money. The time we live in is great, but it also is quite challenging in these manners! Oi!
