Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to enjoy some of the pictures that we took recently when we had a nice batch of weather!
One of the things that you encounter from time to time when you live in an area that gets harsh winters, is one that starts out mild! That is certainly the case for us this year where we live, the winter hasn't been that difficult yet though we've had some really cold days but for the most part, we can't complain too much! I enjoy all of the different types of weather myself, from the cold to the really hot, for different reasons. What is nice though is when you expect it to be cold but it turns out to be very mild where you can walk around barefoot on the beach!
I mentioned a few posts ago that my wife got a new camera for Christmas so we have been trying to take it out as often as we can to get some nice shots. This time was no different! She has been determined to get better with the camera so she can start doing some freelance stuff some day and earn a little cash for it.
The place that we went to is in Maine, one of our favorite spots to visit in the summer! This place here is called Nubble lighthouse and I may get into the history and all that of it in another post but to keep the focus on the photography aspect of it I won't here.
One thing that we are pretty happy with for this camera and lens is the ability to zoom out hahaha. We, with our previous camera, were fixed at 50mm which made some pictures look incredible but it presented a challenge when you were a bit further way from a subject you wanted to take a picture of, or if you were too close. We've now got a ranged lens that's 24-105 which gives a lot more freedom than we previously had which we are taking full advantage of! Lol
While the wife was having fun with her new camera, the little man and I were off to go explore the rocks and see if there were any critters we could find. We could not lol but that didn't dampen our spirits!
The lighthouse has two different ways to get over to it, though it's really one. There is this boat ramp that leads up towards the main island and I like the hidden little shed there, that you can only see if you're on the left side of this peninsula. If you're on the other side, this thing is completely hidden!
There are also several ultra fancy and ultra expensive hotels sitting right on the point lol. We looked it up and the cheapest room at the place right there was 800 a night. No fucking thank you, I'm not going to piss away nearly a mortgage payment for one night to sleep near the ocean. I would camp out on the damn rocks if I had to rather than pay those exorbitant fees lol. I guess people who have deep pockets like to throw their money in the trash, because to me that's what a stay at that place would equate to. The rooms are likely nice and all but not at all worth 800-3000$ a night. But the building does look beautiful right there on the point!
The rocks are a really good subject to get a feel for the camera! She spent a good amount of time hanging out by these rocks to get a few snaps of them and the different flows of the water and stuff. I think in no time she will be getting very fluid with the camera! I know she wants to take a formal class or something to get better at the camera and I'm hoping to be able to provide her that as a surprise in a few months!
One of the coolest things of the trip though was this lobster trap Christmas tree lol. What a fucking Maine thing to do! Make a Christmas tree out of lobster traps hahaha love it. I will definitely be keeping this photo for many years I can tell you that!
All pictures taken with Canon Rebel T7 and Canon 24-105 lens.
