Does anyone around here use Nodewerk?
If you have no idea what it is (which is probably most of you), It's a pretty cool, older, node-based image-editing platform. It was originally the part of the Aviary suite of composition tools known as Peacock but they've moved on and it was able to be released as it's own thing. You can get it here!
I've just thrown together a composition to show you how some of the basic features work.
I started out by adding two 'resources' (images) to the project:
Those two images, piped through a handful of 'nodes' with tweaked values, results in this final image:
The relationship between the second resource and the final image is obvious, but hopefully it's clear that it's not just a crop. The little stars are generated by the SimpleShape node piped through the repeat node. The strange muddy-rose aberrations are created by using the first image, piped through a glitch, and then applied as a luminance mask and filled in with a color field.
I'm not claiming that this is high-art, but it illustrates just a tiny fraction of the variety of things this tool does, playing with the interface was fun, and it took just a few minutes.
