So, I stopped off at Total Wine after going to the grocery store next door. I was looking for a cheapish bourbon, and I bought one -- some "bottled in bond" thing for $20 or whatever. But I can't help but look at the top shelves too. And I found this one. I was attracted to "port barrel finished" for sure. And it turns out, I was right to be!
It's clearly Bourbon -- strong and tart with hints of vanilla. But it's pretty mellow -- at 90 proof it doesn't seem particularly spirit-forward. I enjoyed sipping it straight, and it was amazing with a splash of Cointreau and a dash of Ango. It's also good 50/50 with a fine lemoncello.
If you find this on your local shelf, I suggest giving it a try.
