Sorry that happened to your family member, I am glad they went to the second hospital. It happened to my Mom too they said she was okay but they drove to another hospital to see, a better hospital in the city. They said she was having a stroke. I live in the USA and when my 27-year-old son was born with Cerebral Palsy.
I am convinced the Dr. was more than likely responsible for it as the things that he did wrong during birth. It was very hard to prove anything back then though, the medical field has changed tremendously in that time. When he was 7 months old, one Doctor sent us to Fairfax County Hospital in Northern VA. They tested him, examined him, etc., and said that Dr. said he should stay there for a while, I said no way he was eating fine as I was still breastfeeding him. He just cried all the time - a colic that never went away until he was much older. I remember leaving and walking down the hall carrying Adil in a blanket to go home after all the testing and that same Dr. telling me if I didn't admit him, he could die. Of course, I then said he could stay. I mean if they think he might die, I have to let him stay even though I was convinced they would not change or do anything much to help that they couldn't do as an outpatient service.

I was so upset. 14 days later he was able to leave and there was no diagnosis except he had brain damage since birth, no treatment, no solution to his constant crying and not being able to sit up, talk, etc. His Pediatrician discharged him from being a Patient about 3 months later as they didn't know how to treat him. I couldn't believe they were allowed to do that! Thank God there are laws enforced now about that kind of treatment.

However, I have met a few really great Doctors. Way many better Doctors who have been really nice, and go out of their way for Adil. I would say most of the Medical field is really awesome out there and do terrific jobs. But every once in a while you might run into a bad or sour apple, lol! It is always best to get a second and sometimes even a third opinion if needed.
