I saw it last night on Netflix and enjoyed it. I remember when the film, came out and the twist disappointed a lot of people. Having seen it again I think it's underrated. The twist is a distraction to the central theme - the inevitable failure of trying to escape from suffering. The script is solid, the characters are complex as are the relationships. The soundtrack is amazing and is the star of the show. Of course, like most films, it could have capitalized on its strengths, the whole monster was a distraction and cut short the best part of the film, the love story. I think Shyamalan got too tangled up with the idea that it needed to be a horror and have a twist, it would have been better if he believed in his ability to carry the film based on character exploration more and cut the gimmicks to carry the film. Recommended.
