There are good and bad reason to augment our shell. Maybe there is some physical abnormality that needs to be corrected to make life easier. To make a person's appearance more normalized. Like a cleft pallet or something that is ill formed. But the need to upgrade one's self out of vanity or need to project something that is not real, is not addressing the real problems buried inside the person. The problem with surgery or procedures are that they can't correct what is broken on the inside of people. Those same insecurities that existed previous to the change, are going to be there after the change.
I think bariatrics do it well, at least the reputable ones, as they force the people going through the process to go to therapy prior to the procedure to uncover triggers and the underlying demons that a person has. It is not completely holistic, but it is better than what is done on the other body modification fronts.
Beauty's definition is not finite. We can't pin it down. If we try to chase it, we will just go crazy in the process.
