It is a funny world we live in, we are ingrained at a very early age what the social norms are for the roles we must play in life. Not only do we derive worth from those skewed norms but so do the people who raised us. Our success, or lack there of, is a direct reflection of their successes and failures. We see it as early a tee ball, with fathers berating their sons and daughters for screwing up at a game that should be teaching them the value of winning and losing, not just winning. We become the embodiment of our parents dreams, be it children, marriage or a fancy job. God that terrifies me to write because I just realized how true that is in my life.
The must important person in this world is ourself. If we are broken, then what good are we to the others around us. Imagine a world where we are in a mental state to be able to devote real time and energy to those we love and care for. A place where all the baggage from work, from home, hell from the drive where that dick cut you off and it took every ounce of your soul not to push him into a bridge embankment. Wow that got real fast. Imagine how much weight we would be free of when we realized that we are not Atlas, we don’t have to carry the weight of the world, we just need to take care of ourselves and maybe risk being, dare I say, happy.
