Good read, an interesting twist to the premise of the movie "Arrival", which is one of my favorites. And one could see the pillars as analogous to Covid, which "emitted no sound, had no smell or taste, no texture, or anything that might resemble corporeal solidity" and which made a mysterious appearance and 'disappearance' all over the world. Thankfully we didn't go nuclear over Covid (yet).
