The Apostle Paul closes Second Corinthians with a beautiful blessing in adoration of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. This verse has been rightly called "the blessing of the New Testament trinity."

The apostle Paul writes: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14).

This is the counterpart of the Old Testament blessing found in Numbers 6: 24-26. "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak to Aharon and to his sons, and say unto them, Thus shall ye bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless you, and keep you: the LORD make his face shine upon you, and have mercy on you; lift up your face upon you, and put peace in you "(Numbers 6:22 -26).

God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. However, God is one. There are not three gods. The Westminster Confession declares: "Three persons in the Godhead ... same in substance, equal in power and glory."

The work of salvation is the work of the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The members of the Deity deliberately and voluntarily submit to each other in the work of redemption. The Son submits to the Father, even in obedience until death when dying as our substitute on the cross. The Holy Spirit submits to the Father and the Son. Second Corinthians 13:14 "present the people of the Trinity in a complete way," just as Matthew 28:19 does as well. The three persons of the Godhead are present at the baptism of Jesus when He begins His public ministry (Matthew 3: 16-17).

The blessing of Paul clearly recognizes and teaches different recognitions of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. Christians have recognized this great doctrine of Biblical Christianity in all ages.

The apostle Paul reminds us that the work of salvation is the operation of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in our lives. God the Son is our Mediator and Savior, who surrendered to death for us. All this is possible because God the Father loves us and has chosen to save us by His grace. God the Holy Spirit has applied this great atoning sacrifice and love to us personally. We can now live in the sphere of this saving grace, whose source and origin is the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ in our name.

We praise the LORD God for "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ." Charles Hodge said: "It is grace, undeserved love and everything that springs from it, from this divine person clothed in our nature, and that as the theantropos is invested with the office of Messiah, leadership over His own people and everything the power in heaven and earth, which the apostle invokes for all his believing readers. "

We receive divine grace when we receive "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ" that he has bought and won us with His redeeming death. We now belong to the one who redeemed us. He is now our "Lord" and Teacher.

The name Jesus means "saved Jehovah" (Matthew 1:21).

The title "Christ" describes His office. He is the Christ, the Messiah, the "Anointed One," and our promised Redeemer.

Lenski said well, "every part of His name shines with grace ..."

On the other hand, we are not only blessed with "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ", but also with "the love of God." His infinite love is the source of our redemption. Romans 5: 8 tells us that God manifests His love by giving His Son for us. Also "the manifestation of that love in the forgiveness, sanctification and salvation of men was conditional in the work of Christ" (Hodge). God is the source of love.

We are united to the LORD God with the bond of the Holy Spirit. The bond of union is, of course, Jesus Christ, by whom we became members of the family of God.

"The communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all." He gives Christians a sense of belonging to the LORD God. We are united in one Body. The Holy Spirit has placed the believing sinner in the Body of Christ.

God redeemed us from the curse of the law so that we can receive the promise of the Spirit through which we have koinonia, communion in the kingdom and the work of God. We are united characterized by the Holy Spirit. What incredible communion we have with the LORD God. Jesus prayed: "And I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to you, holy Father to those whom you have given me, keep them in your name, so that they may be one, just as we are" ( John 17:11).

It is through the Spirit of God that we cry out: "Abba, Father!", "Father, dear Father!" (Romans 8:15)
