My father never thought that on the day before his birthday, a child would be born. Any parent witnessing their child being born before their special day would consider this an early gift.
Last July 28, my father celebrated his 43rd birthday. It's amazing to know that our birthdays were just in a row; after celebrating mine, it's my father's time to shine. Others find it cool, but I find it economical.
In my most recent blog, I shared my special day. As I requested from my mother, nothing much happened. With our current economic situation, I feel like celebrating a birthday is just an expense. Aside, I just want a peaceful day where I can still do my usual routine.
But despite stating to my mother that I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday, she still found a way to make me feel that she never forgets. The next day, my mother informed us that she had invited some of our relatives to dinner at a restaurant. I knew that my father was also not a fan kinds of social gatherings, but we had no choice but to follow our commander-in-chief. She said this will serve as a simple feast—a father and son birthday celebration. Instead of two different events, my mother decided to make it one. We can say that we saved some bucks.

So around 4 pm, we left our house to meet our relatives. If you are familiar with the Festival Mall in Alabang, that’s our meeting place and probably the location of the restaurant we’re dining in.
While traveling, I can’t keep my eyes from checking the things I see outside. Despite living here for over 10 years, there's still continuous progress on infrastructure, buildings, and additional housing. I won’t be surprised if one day our city becomes one of the most expensive places here in the south. What I am thinking is not impossible because the majority of the land here is already owned by Ayalas and Villars.
After 30 minutes to almost an hour of travel time, we had already reached our destination. The roads are busy, there are a lot of people passing by, and there are big, bright lights—typical city scenery.
I messaged my cousins to ask where they were. A moment later, I saw them waiting in front of the restaurant. Grandma was also with them, and I was happy to see her. It's been a long time since I talked to her in person because we’re avoiding her with the crowd because she might contract the COVID-19 virus. Right now, she’s already protected; she's completed her two doses and is currently working on the booster shot.
It was still early, so we waited for others to arrive. At around 6 pm, we finally decided to dine in. It's my mother and father’s treat. This is just once in a blue moon, and I am even shocked when they tell me that.
I am a bit embarrassed because it's like we paid for the whole place because we had the longest table. But the laughter and the bonding of the whole family balanced that feeling.
There are a lot of dishes on the table and I can't even choose what to eat first. There's an intrusive thought that I want to put it all on my plate but if I do that I will just look disrespectful. In the end, I managed to eat a few and make my tummy full and happy.
After that, we stayed at the nearby park to continue spending time with each other. They also sang a birthday greeting for both of us. Although I feel awkward, I really appreciate the greetings.
Time flew by so fast, that we didn't even notice the time. We had just been informed by the security guards that time was up and the mall would finally close.
We parted ways and left with a smile on our faces. This day will surely be remembered by everyone. Until next time!
Fin.
