An article appeared on the web site Nextbigfuture analyzing several blockchain social network platforms. Steem was explained in a way the uninitiated would be able to understand. There was no criticism leveled at Steem by the author. Just a matter of fact explanation of what makes Steem different from Facebook. It did favor another site titled Humans.net in predicting who was better at filling a societal need. I looked at the Humans.net site and like their plan to make their site truly accurate so when someone says they have a degree, license, certificate, etc they have to actually have it. Obviously Steem is committed to free speech but fake news has become a serious problem in the modern era. I do not care if you like or do not like Donald Trump. What cannot be denied is the one who screams the loudest about fake news is personally responsible for massive distribution of just that by his army of minions. There are several internet sites that are home to crackpot conspiracy theories. We all laughed when they reported that Hilary Clinton was running a child sex trafficking ring from tunnels underneath a pizza restaurant in Washington D.C. When a crazed gunman from North Carolina showed up at the restaurant and discharged a firearm, while attempting to rescue the children, it no longer seemed funny. That was the first time I realized there are really people who will literally believe anything. We are living in a difficult time where it is becoming harder and harder to know what is objectively true. If Humans.net can actually enforce some kind of reality enforcement without stepping on free speech (I do not even know if this is possible) then Steem would do well to incorporate it as well. Bottom line, we are on notice that Steem is not the only alternative to Facebook using the blockchain and we better not get complacent.
