My favorite fiction book series are the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony. It's a high fantasy inspired world that crosses into the mundane world and back over the course of the series and progresses through many different generations, races, and families. All of the books connect and tie the world together and there is a heavy focus on puns and plays on words to create the "magic" of the story universe. Also a plus is the fact that there are 40+ books at the time of this comment.
