If you invested "big money" on Steem then it is understandable that the first thing any investor would do is to breakeven that investment.

I always say this to people: upvoting yourself is not at all bad as long as what you are upvoting is at least of "decent quality", whether it be a post or comment.

Just imagine a whale, upvoting his "one word comment". Newbies have been trying too hard to earn some extra money here on Steem, but the first thing they would see is a whale "self-voting" his one word comment. That act would hurt Steem as many people will think that the platform or this blockchain is rigged and gamed by the rich

However, if one has self-control and is limiting his self-votes to around 20%, then it is much more better. Voting other authors not only makes you a good steemian but you are also rewarded some curation rewards from it which could even be greater than "self-voting" if you know how it works.
