There is this popular proverb 'Pride comes before a fall'. What this proverb actually portrays is that one who is too proud of himself/herself is likely to become to fail in life. Pride is a character or attitude (Whichever one you will call it) that makes one act or have a high opinion about oneself or importance. Being proud is not a problem, but overdoing it is. You will agree with me that it is an entirely different thing for one to believe in himself or be confident compared to one being full of himself.
Personally, I distant myself from people I perceive to be too full of themselves or if atall I must relate with them, I relate with them with caution.
To me, the opposite of being proud or full of oneself is to be humble. It takes a wise mind to decide to be humble. Throughout my research in life, I have come to the understanding that humility pays.
It is a normal thing for one to be proud of himself, or be proud of a close person. But when you becomes too proud of himself to the extent of looking down on others because of your level of achievements, that is totally out of the box.
Come to think of it, A true Christian and a believed of God's word must not possess such an attitude. Developing the 'Pride' character/attitude in oneself can lead to Hatred, Discrimination, Oppressiveness to mention but a few.
Some of the major reasons why I feel it is wrong for one to be full of oneself is that it can cause people to distant themselves from you and also it can cause a person to loose opportunities. There are situations where we are almost actually close to our Success. But due to the character which we possess, we loose the chance. Whereas, if we humbled ourself enough, we would have been able to grab the opportunity at hand.
My bone of contention is that it doesn't cost us a thing to be a humble person. Being humble will not cause you to loose fame, money or reputation. Also, being humble does not mean that you have to be down with inferiority complex because most famous people still do have inferiority complex. But it will only make you feel better when you spoil others with kindness and treat them as you would like to be treated. Remember, We are all equal in the sight of the Almighty God.
