Julie is an Russian Instagrammer that I happen to stumble upon. She has 700 followers and mostly posts selfies, self-portraits and also does minimalistic portrait drawings of celebrities. Her artistic feed drew me in immediately and this is what made me want to draw a portrait of her.

A snippet of the reference photo on the left that I used for this portrait drawing of mine, click here to visit the original photo. As for the material used to draw, I used mostly mechanical pencils to obtain hard lines. I have a HB and 4B mechanical leads to achieve softer to darker shades. I also have 2 different sized mechanical pencils, 0.2mm and 0.5mm.

This is the colored piece of the portrait. I used GIMP, a free editing program that is available here. I was happy to find that Julie used my work as her display picture on her Instagram. I find it endearing that people use my image, especially if it's one of my subjects.
