The most important truth about God's will is that He is constantly guiding us.

Source

Except, of course, if we decide to continue on our own path. We can see this through all the Scriptures. Psalm 23, for example, assumes that God is pastoring us: "By waters of rest ... He will guide me in paths of justice for the sake of his name."

Does God only guide us when we ask him? Of course not! It was not like that for the people mentioned in the Bible, nor is it like that for us today. I know of an occasion when God revealed his will while people were "seeking God."

This happened in Acts 13: 2, "While they were ministering to the Lord, and fasting, the Holy Spirit said: Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." However, at that time, those people were also not fasting for God to reveal to them what Saul and Barnabas had to do. They already knew that! God had already called them.

That day, the Lord interrupted the works that the disciples were doing in Antioch. After receiving that revelation from God, the disciples went out to the places they thought most convenient, without receiving any other instruction from God.

If we are not walking in the right way, God will correct our steps - unless, of course, we are obstinate.

Later, the disciples received another revelation, the famous call to Macedonia. On that occasion, Paul and Sila were going to Asia when the Lord diverted them to Europe. Paul was definitely neither fasting nor praying when he "saw" the Macedonian man who said, "Come to Macedonia and help us" (Acts 16: 9). In fact, Paul was deeply asleep when he had that vision.

Even so, Paul understood that God had called them to preach the gospel in Macedonia. The word "convinced" (Acts 16:10 NIV) indicates that Paul was very cautious with visions. Visions are not commandments but revelations in which we must meditate before we can interpret them.

People say that they wait for the signs of God with "impartiality," but what usually happens is that they take the first idea they perceive as being a direct order from the Lord. They say: "The Lord told me." How do those people know that the one who spoke was the Lord? In the same way that the waters that fall in the lagoons come from different sources, likewise, the thoughts that come to our minds come from different places.

Sudden impulses do not guarantee that they are of divine origin. It is very easy to turn our desires into a heavenly call. 1st John 4: 1, puts us on notice about the hasty conclusions, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits if they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. "

We do not fight with God - God fights with us

Usually problems arise with the will of God since we have our own "desires". Let's study Patriarch Jacob. God appeared to Jacob and struggled with him (Jacob did not fight with God), until Jacob gave him his will. Then, Jacob held fast to God and did not let go until he received the only thing he considered important - God's blessing.

God's will is so important that He can not wait for people to seek it. It would be too great a risk to trust that people will ask him at the precise moment what he wants to do. It is by his grace that we can walk the right way, as long as our hearts are right. This is how the Christian life is lived - following in the footsteps of Jesus.

Some people say that they pray hard until they can hear the "subtle and quiet" voice of God, emphasizing the amount of time spent in prayer as a sign of authenticity. Will God always be so delicate and calm? Will God be like a tyrant who says "I'm only going to say this once"? Psalm 29: 3 tells us that the God of glory "thunders." Allow me to be honest.

On many occasions, we know perfectly the will of God, the problem is that we do not want to do it. If we are not walking in the right way, God will correct our steps - unless, of course, we are obstinate.

The promises are clear: Psalm 32: 8 says, "I will make you understand, and I will show you the way in which you must walk; I will fix my eyes on you "; Psalm 25: 9 says, "He will lead the humble through judgment, and teach the meek his career"; and Psalm 48:14 says, "For this God is our God forever and ever;
He will guide us even beyond death".
