In many countries to determine the poverty of a person, a relationship is used between the economic income factors generated by a job, either through a salary or other type of profit and the amount of food that you can acquire with said remuneration from work. .

In all countries, it is assumed that there must be a basic food basket. This is made up of all the necessary foods for a person or family, which present the adequate nutritional requirements to be able to subsist and develop comfortably. Within these foods are the meats, fruits, vegetables, cereals, fish, juices, legumes, vegetables, pasta, grains, dairy, eggs, proteins, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins that a person requires.

  • If your salary is enough to buy a basic basket, it means that you are extremely poor.
  • If you went out to buy 2 basic baskets, you are moderately poor.
  • If 30% of your salary reaches to buy the basic basket, you are in a stable economic situation.

Many nations use these measures to assess the poverty rate of a population, since food is a right and is the most essential for an individual, since without that can not survive.
