A video from my 4th of July Double Dive at The Oaks in Cronulla, Sydney, Australia through Abyss Scuba Diving Centre - https://www.abyss.com.au with Kim as my dive buddy. Water visibility for the first dive was pretty good (10-15m) with water at around 16 degrees. Second dive had a little bit of a current and visibily down to 5-10m with plenty of silt.
Encounters: Sponges, Old Wives, Port Jackson Shark, Red Morwong, Wrasse, Yellow Tail, Blue Grouper, Leather Jacket, Yellow Boxfish
Still troubleshooting some leaking issues in my drysuit but have already identified the location and cause so hopefully will finish fixing them up soon or back to the 7mm wettie.
Equipment:
Canon 5D MIII with 16-35mm f4L IS in Ikelite Housing. Sea & Sea Internal Correction Filter and Magic Filter attached. Olympus TG5 with Seafrog housing and Auto Magic Filter as the secondary camera. I only used the footage form the Canon 5D MIII for this video edit.
More of my shooting focus was on testing the hair pulling Magic Lantern – 4K Raw experimental build on my Canon 5D mIII to try and push the video capabilities of this ageing camera just that little bit further.
This video was shot using the 1920x1080 @ 45fps 14bit RAW (3x3 Binning) mode which allowed my 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro (160MB/s) to record average 10 seconds at a time before filling up the buffer space. The liveview is greyscaled and heavily lagging and the settings I configured don’t always work straight away when switched to video mode. Shooting at 45fps I had to play with the ML exposure settings to try and get it down to the recommended 1/90sec shutter speed.
The Raw MLV files were put through Magic Laterns MLV App and exported as CinemaDNG Lossless at 24fps before being edited through Davinci Resolve. I further used Adobe DNG Coverter to create a more compressed lossy version at about 1/3rd the size for archiving. I’ve read there’s almost no loss of important data but do need to test in this in context of underwater/extreme shooting environments.
