What is death,
That it rubs us of our happiness
And feeds us pain and misery?
What is death,
That it wipes the smile off our faces
And leaves us empty and broken?
Is it a thing to be accepted,
To be seen as normal and swallowed eyes closed?

In the beginning was the word, they say.
Was there death in the beginning too?
They didn't say anything
About the aloneness,
Nor did they explain the chills.
The fear was left off too.
They only spoke of life and new beginnings.
The lovely picture was believable till it all changed.

The dawn usually arrives
With beautiful colours like the rainbow.
We yearn to touch it,
To feel the beauty within us.
Funny the word beauty finds its way
Into the troubled and lonely soul.
Some say there's beauty in death.
What do they know, what have they seen?

The shock never goes away.
They lied about it being better with time.
The rawness never heals,
The voices and expressions
Never disappears from the mind.
The face and last words will
Forever live in the heart.
Nothing makes it better, not time, not the memories.

The smile may steal every gloom away.
The happy faces may pull the mind
And make it forget.
But how long does it take before it remembers?
How long before everything rushes back,
Nastier than ever?
This time with its mouth open,
Threatening to swallow.

What is death,
That it shakes our fingers
And dares us to make a move?
What is death,
That it looks us in the face
And sneers with reckless abandon?
Is it a way of life?
Who has the answers?

It's finally here, the moment I dread the most. I knew it'd come eventually. It's almost 2AM here and I can't sleep. The tears, the pains. This too shall pass.

Thank you, warpedpoetic@warpedpoetic. One day, I'll find the words.
