I was in a car accident back in 1998 and got my leg and hip broken. I now use a cane or rollator (walker on wheels) which my sister got me. :) So my dad keeps an eye out for these types of things that might help me out. It was a very cool, totally casual thing and I'm glad I went, Thanks dad!

Information about services for people with disabilities. Services offered include child, developmental, mental health, home care, recreation, safety awareness, and blind and deaf services. Ability Fair is hosted by Maui Economic Opportunity. (MEO)
Each booth/table had info (mostly pamphlets) about who they were and what services were offered. They also they gave out lots of promo stuff for free! Ysa wanted a few pens for school so we just took whatever they gave out. ::P
Many of the services were for those who are severely compromised.. like for those stuck in a wheelchair or blind or deaf or maybe someone who cannot communicate or needs help with everyday things. I am very grateful I am not in such a condition, I did, however, find it really cool that they had so much safety/preparedness info like fire safety, security, and even disaster preparedness. :)
There was the one service that stood out to me.. they helped those who are paralyzed or have that physical limitations which prevent them from getting out on their own, and they had a wide recliner padded chair with one wheel on the end and the handles on the other so another strong person could pull the immobile person around. I wish I would've taken a pic of it, but just you probable seen similar things. I've seen that used to pull/carry cargo. I thought it would be so nice for a person that never gets a chance to get out (like hiking) and they really want to.
OK, that's all I got to say on that one. I'm glad I went, it's good to be informed about all your options, but I am glad I am in no need of most of those services now..
