I've always wanted to be strong and daring, like superman. I could remember growing up, I'd tie my mom's wrapper around my neck and look for a high place to climb. Then after that, I'll sing myself a nice theme song then I'll jump, when I land I always ended up feeling quite heroic.
I'd done this a couple of times over and it had been great every single time until I landed on a nail. You know the feeling, with a nail jammed inside your leg? you wouldn't feel so heroic after such an ordeal. You wouldn't feel the pain at first until when your leg is trying to get pulled out and when you're carried to that old lady's hut to get treated, you know you're dead.
But don't think too much about it, it's just the premise for my main joke, I just wanted to paint a picture first, and the thing about pictures nowadays is, the weird ones get appreciated the most. So I say, good day/night to you wherever you're reading this from, I'm glad to be back here once again, where did I go? I'll spare you the details below.
Some few days back, my roomie got sick and he hardly ever falls sick, I really had a good laugh. But he did fall sick and this dude is always prepared for anything. Next thing I know he's already gone to get tested and gotten himself prescribed drugs, then he also went on to get himself some bread and some milk. This was way before the real sickness even hit in, he was already feeling the symptoms.
So there he is already sorted out for the sick days ahead, he was even more prepared than the sickness itself, hehe. I thought to myself, this was my opportunity to be the strong guy you know, to take care of him and make him feel loved, afterall I hardly ever get sick. I've always been like superman you know, the man of steel and superman takes care of others.
But before I could ever do anything, he's already done it, he didn't even need me to tell him to take his drugs, didn't even ask me to prepare him food, nothing, man, I started to feel rather useless. So I leave the house the next day to go do something fun also hoping that I'll hear my phone ring and it'll be my sick roommate asking me to come home because he's in so much need of help, but the call never came.
I get home to find him cozy on the couch and he's there watching a movie with food by his side. What in the name of petersburg was happening! Is this how sweet it is to fall sick? I asked myself in shock. I wake up the next day, offered to prepare the beans that was left in the house and he was like meh sure you can, with no conviction at all. Some few minutes later his girlfriend comes in with smiles and fruits and lots of love. I couldn't take it anymore, the moment my phone just rang, I took the opportunity and ran out of the house.
It was fun, I met new people, we did a lot of fun things, even made tiktok videos and my phone still didn't ring. I knew he was already being breastfed but I still couldn't understand why a sick person can have so much fun at such a time, why!. It was almost time to leave and I started to feel uneasy, body pains, sore throat a sharp headache and uneasiness. Maybe I had done too much, I thought, so I went home and laid down.
I couldn't sleep, I started to heat up! Things weren't going anyway as planned. I got up and used the little energy I had left to go do the necessaries and also get myself some drugs, just looking at them almost made me puke but I had to put it together, afterall I'm a man of steel. I got myself some food and made it back home. Immediately he saw me with the drugs you should have seen the big smile on his face, he didn't have to say anything but it was pretty clear.
With my head down, I went in quietly, ate and took my drugs, then I tried to sleep. That was the worst decision ever. I couldn't sleep, different thoughts kept running through my mind, was doomsday going to kill me again?..ohh, sorry, I thought I was still Superman. But it was the longest night ever in the history of nights. Then I woke up feeling tired, more body pains and useless.
I couldn't say anything, I just watched my roommate go around having his usual fun. There was no way I could ask for help, no way, so I just sat down and starred at the ceiling. When I had had enough I decided to try to sleep maybe I will this time and it was at that moment he decided to watch a movie. All the images kept appearing in my sleep, it kept haunting me and when I finally stood up I started to hallucinate.
I was seeing things that were not even there, things flying, things crawling, it was horrifying. Then what was worse was that my brain shut down, I was trying to explain what I saw to him but I kept saying weird things, very weird things that didn't add up, "imagine this cloth..obstacle..you.. look..wall..", then my head goes numb. He just stared at me trying to understand what I was saying and it certainly did not make any sense.
At a point he started to think I had ran mad. The harder I tried to explain the more convincing it was. Now I know what mad people who aren't actually mad go through, hehe. So much for being the man of steel, this man of steel just got a nail stucked in his leg again and whatever you do, don't you dare fall sick, no one deserves to go through all that!
