I think divorce rates are higher now because nobody is ready to take shit from anybody anymore.
It is Sit up or Get out.
Act right or shift to-the-left where your shit is packed in a box.
Everybody now expects best behaviour.
I grew up in shared apartments. People take a lot of shit back then. Women take beatings. Men take abusiveness. Women take tons of bullshit. Men take crap. Cat and dog. Tom and Jerry. Janet and John.
Now, if you threaten to slap her in a heated argument, she is divorcing your ass. If you burnt the indomie at breakfast, his mom is showing up the next day with some new girl. When I was a kid, I saw a man threaten to beat up his wife, she rushed to her room and came out with a pestle and short knicker. People say marriage is this and that and nothing else.
That's bullshit, sis. Marriage is a lot of things and War is one of them.
Marriage isn't for people who can't fight.
I am talking from the sum of everything I have seen( seen a lot, best believe) and been told(even more than I have seen) and read( oh well, this takes the pizza).
Pa Ikhide once said something on his wall about how, to make it work, you have to be ready to wade waist deep or neck deep in shit. He was talking to men then, but it applies to both sides.
The problem here is, the deeper you go, the further you wade, the more dangerous it becomes. How much shit is enough? How far do you have to wade before it reaches your neck and sucks your soul in? How much longer can you wade before a shitstorm hits you?
My granny likes to say, You millennials are so lazy. You can't stand stress, you can't stand pressure, you can't even fight for something as important as marriage. As love.
I am like, Maybe. Maybe not.
I think we are in the era where people just want to be happy. To be independent. Marriage means baggage, man. You are gonna take up tons on yourself. My friend once said, Marriage doesn't make sense to me. I like my space too much. I like to withdraw now and then. I can't afford to fuck that up by pretending to be committed to making someone else happy. We all should be responsible for our own happiness.
I know there are those dumb folks who will say, Go marry before you talk. But you don't have to get shot to talk about shootings.
I think marriage is cool. But it is for fighters not wimps. It is for mechanics not CEOs. Mechanics are not afraid to crawl in mud and grime. They are not afraid to get dirty to fix shit up. CEOs can't survive that one, man. CEOs need to be looking tush and polished and respectable and ultimately fake. That Marriage thing is too real for people with CEO attitudes. They go about expecting everything to be spotless, to be in order. Doesn't work that way. Nope.
You have to roll up your sleeves, man. Forget that Harvard shit, you have to be ghetto. Forget that cant-mess-my-nail-polish-up thing, if you want it, you work for it and you work to keep it working.
But hey, sometimes, you can't fix shit. You just get out of the mud, out of the grime, out from under the fender and go wash your hands. You can't spend your whole life trying to fix something up. That's fucked up, bro. If it ain't working, it ain't working. Let it be.
But you also can't give the damn car a cursory glance, try the ignition, press some pedals and get out, put on your suit and say 'I tried.'
Stop lying, fam. You didn't.
I am not giving advice. I just love to watch my fingers type.
