MY WORK:
I work with mentally disabled people. See it like an adult who thinks and acts like a child of 4/5 years old.
It may sounds hard and even harder to imagine.
I work at a big house where 10 people live. Sometimes I work alone and sometimes there is a college to help me.
WHAT TO DO:
I help them al to live a life we are all living. Helping them with learning and doing things to better fit in sociaty.
They can not do a lot, but they are very happy with the little things they can and are getting compliments for it. That makes thema always smile.
Besides that, I clean, cook, do dishes, give food by feeding, help them shower and look good for the day, help them to be on time for work or activity centre, give them medication, get groceries, wash clothes, help them to the toilet, brushing their teeth and bring them to bed. I think I maybe forgot a few things but this is overall what I do on a day when I work. These are the fysical things I have to do.
You also got "mentally" things to do. Like, stimulate them to do certain kind of things by them zelf and compliment them when them do it the right way. Most of the people with a mentale disorder like this, really enjoy a compliment. I often see them smiling when I vice them a compliment.
It is also important to stay strong and patient. Sometimes they can be agressive. When that is the issue, you do not show that youre scared, they will feel and see it and it could make it all worse. Just talk to them and if that is not working, dan I tell them that i'm going away and that they can stay in their room. And after 5 minutes I will return the room again and talk to them. Often they tell me what the problemen was and them I help them to solve that problem and end it with a smile.
These are a few examples to let y'all see how it is to work with mantally disabled people. But I can tell you, everyday is different.
POSITIVITY:
And the positive part about it all, is that it always ends well and it always depens on how you act and feel. And even if you're feeling down, but you see that they can be very happy with the smallest things, than it brings automatically a smile to my face.
Soon I will show more of it. But this was a "little" intro to give you an example of how it is.
Have nice day y'all❤
