Hey JessCrypto loves
The enthusiasm in the crypto community is infectious, and rightly so, there is plenty to be positive about as we build the onramps and offramps of web 3.0 and a new payment system and the digital economy. There is plenty of facet of the way we transact that requires improvement in its antiquated ways, and with it comes loads of opportunity and potential upside.
Granted there is huge potential but what I see is a second dot com bubble that will see many investors losing tonnes of money over the course of the next ten years. Blockchain applications other than as a unit of account are all in its infancy and have yet to prove they can compete at scale and onboard enough users to make it a worthwhile option.
What I see is the same thing we saw in the dot com boom, put .com at the end of your company name and its suddenly worth something, even when you don't have a working product, customers or revenue.
In ANY business sector, the failure rate is above 95% that's the way it is, and blockchain will be no different. While there are over 5000 coins on @coingecko and even more not listed the harsh reality is 95+ won't be around. If you think this doesn't apply to the top 100, or top 10 then you're mistaken, the majority there will fail too.
Blockchain isn't some magic formula for success, and you still need things EVERY business needs, customers and revenue and profits.
Many of the crypto-based businesses that thrive do not even use their digital asset to fund their operations. For example, exchanges, they don't care about their private coin or the coins on the platform; they care about the fees that drive revenue. They didn't run on ICO money; they run on private equity to grow.
People have yet to make the distinction between self-funded and venture-funded in the space and conflate the two thinking all blockchain projects have some equal footing when they do not.
In blockchain at the moment, most of the customers and users of the product are investors. They have a stake in the platform and have a vested interest in it succeeding. This blinds them to the idea of the shortcomings of the project and how it can fail, which is why they most likely will fail.
In the crypto space, you'll always hear people gaslighting a project, anything else is dismissed as FUD and brushed under the carpet, perhaps even this post. Unfortunately for investors, the market does not care how you view rhetoric and sooner or later, fundamentals pull through when the bills pile up, and the revenue dries up the shills shut up, and move to the next one.
In business, a good team doesn't sit around, focusing on what they do right. No management team walks in on a Monday and goes, let's have a meeting and talk about all the awesome things we do. That's for the customer to worry about, the business side is ALWAYS focussed on improving the product or service.
Crypto companies often focus too much on their minor victories and do not want to face facts, that their product is sub-par to a non-blockchain alternative. If it wasn't, the market would value it correctly with users and revenue.
It's not only about the best product, but its also the best growth strategy and best marketing, these are all areas in which crypto lacks, speaking to the same people and reinforcing echo-chambers ready for mass failure.
One cannot get caught up in the now like I said many coins you think are household names now won't be around in 1,2,5 or 10 years time.
That's the nature of the business, but what is lost in company failure, is gained in lessons of what does not work. Skills are also acquired, and consolidation in the best projects will happen as the market deems one use case better than the other.
This will gravitate skill, users, funding an revenue in the places it is valued best and only serve to kill off more projects along the way.
I have no doubt blockchain as a sector will succeed, but as for the projects you hold dear to now, most of them won't and can't!
What do you good people of HIVE think?
