Mobile Data needs a makeover
If you're a South African you probably are well versed in the art of complaining, be it e-tolls, no water, the price of petrol or the way taxi's drive. These complaints affect plenty of people but there is one complaint we all have. One industry that has really abused and taken advantage of the South African consumer for years now and that is the price of mobile data.
I think all South Africans can universally on when complaining then it's the price and policies around mobile data. We have some of the most expensive mobile data rates in the world and couple that with very restrictive data policies which looks set to be changed after the ICASA ruling.

SA cellphone users will soon be allowed to carry over unused data
Time for disruption SA
South Africa is very much a mobile-first nation with the majority of internet connections made from mobile devices. Having such a demand and combining it with this sort of monopoly on a valuable commodity has us propping up these companies with high-profit margins since we have no other choice and its the ideal market for disruption. That is why I'm glad DENT has identified South Africa as a market worth pursuing.
DENT has successfully opened up in Singapore and have connectivity contracts in place in Brazil, India, Africa, USA, Mid East and Mexico and started creating a data marketplace for users to sell, buy and trade data on an open market as they see fit, everything is done peer to peer.
Travelling with DENT
DENT is now available in 130 countries and has signed up 400 cellular networks to its service. So if you plan on travelling you can simply use DENT to buy, sell or trade your data for the relevent network you would like to ise
What is DENT?
Dent coin was launched by a company called DENT Wireless Limited with the purpose of creating DENT was the idea of repurposing data, and the way data is being stored, shared, paid for and sold. Dent is focused on becoming the first mobile data cryptocurrency where Dent developers are hoping to transfer coin operations to mobile usage, that way disrupting the by far known system of the global telecommunications industry, aiming at revolutionizing the way people are exchanging data.
DENT is an ERC-20 token and is run on the Ethereum blockchain. The ETH smart contracts provide a trustworthy way of defining top-ups and the process of buying and selling them. Decentralized. User-driven. Transparent.

What I think of DENT
Full disclosure: I do own a pretty large stake in DENT so please consider this while reading my content around this project and have owned the coin since its ICO because I really believe in the project and what they are trying to achieve.
Today mobile data and airtime are among the most desired commodities, but access is controlled by only a few companies in each country. Unused data or credit expires every month which means billions of dollars of profit for the operators and consumers incur major losses each year. Having a peer to peer option that liberates us from centralised authority especially when it comes to a digital commodity is to me a no-brainer and something that can, should and must happen.
DENT may be the one to do it or may not, who knows? But as for now its the only project in this space looking to pursue this market which is why I feel so confident about them
Have your say
What do you think about having a data marketplace? Would it be helpful to you? Do you think South Africa needs to adopt more ways to reduce the price of data?
