Hey Jessientertainers

The world we live in is a fascinating place, and there’s never a dull moment, regardless of where you are in the world! It could be real drama or manufactured drama; there’s always drama!

I wouldn’t say my life is the most eventual or dramatic; I don’t go looking for it like others do. Don’t mind me; I’m happily sitting in the corner stacking Sats like Lego’s.

The digital age has taken human nature and dialled it up to 1000, and we’re all still coming to terms with it!

The easy access to information and sharing of opinions and the spread of misinformation and curation of your online persona. It’s created a society of kayfabe which seeks to entrench itself in every facet of our daily life.

What’s, is Kayfabe?

in professional wrestling the fact or convention of presenting staged performances as genuine or authentic.

I grew up in the attitude era of wrestling, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and more household names. They were the premium source of entertainment, and we tuned in weekly.

As a child, I never quested the authenticity of what I saw in front of me! Naturally, my parents played along as not to ruin the surprise like they would the tooth fairy or Santa Claus.

After every episode, my brother and I would practice the moves on one another and naturally hurt each other.

This made it all the more real. If two kids can hurt each other with these moves surly big muscle-bound men are doing real damage to themselves! It lent to the legitimacy of what we watched each week.

As we got older, the fake nature of wrestling became more apparent, but it didn’t stop us from watching. It still provided every bit of entertainment as it did when you thought it was real.

Pro wrestling is a billion-dollar industry its sports entertainment, faux sports if you will! Yes the performers still get injured, still, get paid, still do most of what would be expected of them if it were all real but the narratives, speeches, set up and pageantry is all predetermined.

They test the reaction of fans each week, watch viewership numbers and use this feedback loop to refine their product to give it that “real” appeal!

It’s the same thing these “reality” shows do; they are anything but reality.

When you start to see the world through the lens of kayfabe, it starts to make a lot more sense.

Fake news

Fake news 📰 has been in the news ironically since I think Trump coined the term! It could have been someone else, and he just ran with it, but I always remember him talking about it.

Fake news has been around since before the printing press! We’ve always been lying little shits trying to get others to see things our way, the printing press, media and now the internet has amplified it.

It’s hard to know what is real or fake short of speaking to those on the ground and with so many incentives to lie or drive certain narratives, fake news has become a big problem for society.

There are loads of pieces that are actually placed PR or adverts masquerading as news, and it’s getting harder to tell which it is anymore.

Throw in the ability to deep fakes and voice copy software, and fake news just took on an entirely new element.

Fake money

Money makes up a large part of what we think about daily, how we operate our daily lives, plan for the future and organise society. If 50% of all our transactions are settled in a measurement tool that can be manipulated and changed at will, then what basis of reality is there.

there is no measuring stick, fiat money is kayfabe, its something masquerading as value only through our collective acceptance and belief. I feel that same acceptance and belief is transferable, so why not transfer it to something humans cannot control and change on a whim.

Fake mentors

There was a time where being a mentor or thought leader meant you had to go out and achieve something of note; you had to break ground socially, politically, economically, technologically.

Now we have all these fake mentors where their power is measured by followers, likes, views and their so-called material wealth, even if its rented, just the presentation alone counts for more than the actual value they bring or can achieve.

Fake lives

Kayfabe also manifests in our lives; we pretend to own homes that most banks borrow to us for a slice of our productivity per year. We drive cars, phones, clothing that have no real value other than brand value and perceived scarcity.

We form so-called elite clubs, class structures all based on arbitrary rules and preach like any group, be it religious, political or educational is better than another.

Our society thrives on kayfabe and I for one, am not going to be taking any of this seriously.
