A while has passed since my last posts on Hive and, as always, life sweeps us along so fast that the world doesn't stop to wait for us to keep going. Falling or growing amidst the difficulties. As if we were predesigned without the ability to pause, we keep moving forward. We fight new wars trying to fit into the mold of being 'strong.' We aren't strong if the body is screaming.

Being strong also means knowing when to stop and look inward. After cheap self-deception maneuvers telling myself I was fine, I allowed myself not to be and understood why.

Being a 'resilience machine' is fine when you understand that the pain of falling is valid, as well as the time you need to get back up.

And so my September began...

It hasn't been an easy month. Studying medicine today in Cuba —or any career, to be honest— is turning out to be a constant test of endurance. It's walking a tightrope where, like a daily mockery, we grow more disappointed each day, often forcing us to weigh our dreams and our commitment to our vocation against the imperative need to supply the basics. It's a harsh reality, one that often no one talks about or that we prefer to pretend doesn't exist, but it weighs heavily on the shoulders of any young person trying to build a future here.
Despite everything, I learned that loving what I do doesn't have to mean immolating myself in the attempt.

September demanded that I redraw the map. I decided I could no longer postpone what makes me happy for 'later,' because that 'later' sometimes never arrives. I started acting according to my true priorities, living a little more for myself. That translated into small, big daily victories: reclaiming the morning gym habit to clear my mind before the chaos begins, immersing myself in new courses, and giving it my all in the demands of my new clinical rotations without neglecting my mental health.
I understood that taking it one step at a time isn't a synonym for slowness, but of self-respect. Refusing to stop doing the things that nourish me from within became my most genuine form of resistance.

Without abandoning my responsibilities, and focused on building a refuge of growth and inner strength, September has been a month of tests passed, of small achievements that remain etched in memory. It has been a harmonious meeting point where refusing to abandon myself to the current's luck has been the most complete outcome.
And I know it's still difficult, that the road outside remains just as uphill. But the difference now lies in how I decide to inhabit it: one day at a time, choosing myself first.

Today October began. I don't know what storms the calendar might bring, but this time it receives me with another armor: one made of conscious pauses, clear priorities, and the firm decision not to let go of my own hand. May this new month be the perfect opportunity to continue inhabiting my days with intention, knowing that every step, no matter how small it seems, is already a victory.
