This week's Splinterlands Share Your Battle Challenge is focusing on the Centaur. The Centaur is an interesting Beta card that came with the starter pack so I have a copy. It does have some uses in some of the new rule-sets which i will talk about later
Theme of the Week: Centaur
The rules and my setup
Healed Out | Lost Magic
24 Mana Cap
Summoner: Mylor Crowling - To do thorns damage every time my opponent does a melee attack
Position 1: Mycelic Infantry - To absorb half the damage from melee and range attacks
Position 2: Furious Chicken - Some distance between backline and enemy's front
Position 3: Fungus Fiend - Same as the Furious Chicken
Position 4: Screeching Vulture
Position 5: Centaur - Snipe range attack on my opponents to bypass the tank
Position 6: Hunter Jarx - Concentrated snipe range attack on my opponents
Did my strategy work?
The strategy worked very well thanks to a combination of my opponent using predominantly melee attacks and my use of Shield and Thorns. You can see a replay of the battle here
Round 1: Only my Furious Chicken died but my opponent's Magnor has taken serious damage
Round 2: Opponent is only left with 1 card at the end of the round thanks to a combination of the Shield and Thorns ability.
Round 3: Opponent's range monster can't attack and is picked off quickly
Would I do anything differently?
Not really. When there is no magic, two of the better abilities to have are Shield and Thorns since they counter both melee and range attacks. Mylor Crowling giving all my cards thorns is very useful.
My thoughts on the Centaur
The Centaur almost seems like an afterthought. It isn't the most useful card at level 1 and doesn't gain much abilities or stats as you level it up. That said, it can be useful if you are doing a snipe quest and are limited to even cards. It is one of the few that meet the criteria and available to all splinters as a neutral card.
