actually the USA were one of the first countries with laws created to reduce microplastic accumulation in nature.
In 2015 the Obama administration passed the "Microbead Free Water Act". This act forbids the use of microplastic in cosmetics, shower gels and comparable products. Unfortunately, researchers found that the plethora of microplastic is not derived from those products and the wastewater cleaning systems efficiently removes them. Therefore, these laws change almost nothing on the situation, but they are at least a beginning. In Europe, no such laws exist!
