AMD Releases Latest Security Patch To Protect CPU From Specters

If you have a CPU from AMD with a Windows 10 system, then always update your system with the latest options. Because, some time ago, Windows has released a hotfix, which is part of AMD's security patch that enables protection against Spectre 2 variant attacks on systems using their processors.
Earlier this year, attacks that exploited speculative execution of processors were published under the name of Meltdown and Specter, triggering reactions from hardware and software companies. Earlier news said that AMD Chips were immune to Meltdown but had some vulnerability to two Specter variants. Specter variant 1 requires improvements in terms of applications, whereas variant 2 requires changes in the operating system.
Intel and AMD seem to have worked hard to release microcode updates in changing the behavior of their processors to provide the necessary operating system controls, and certainly to be able to protect their CPU against the Variant Specter 2. Microsoft has sent an Intel microcode, along with changes to the operating system needed to using the new microcode feature, and for the current week; especially yesterday's update, it will provide similar protection with options for AMD engines.

Patches are present only for Windows 10, where equivalent fixes may also be present for Windows Server 2016 which still underwent validation and testing. Operating system changes apply only when the matching microcode is installed.

AMD has published a microcode update for processors released since 2011, when the Bulldozer architecture debuted. Currently, the only way to install microcode is to install a system firmware that includes updates. Microsoft has the ability to distribute and install microcode updates through Windows updates, and companies started doing this for Intel chips last month, but right now they seem to be doing the same for AMD processors.
This is why it's important to use the latest operating system like Windows 10 to get a much better security option. Especially to avoid the recent exploits of security holes that are present on CPUs such as Meltdown and Specters.
