The things I need - really need - are usually deeper than air, more life giving than a 7-course meal, and last longer than a mere building in which to live.
Grace is the free provision of whatever I need for life,
and it is given from the generous hand of a loving God. Again, I want to point out that word, “everything”. If it means what I have always thought it meant, then, that would seem to indicate that God knew all of my needs, from long ago, figured out how to provide for those needs, paid for them, and offers them to me free of charge.
Now, why in the world would He do such a thing? I know I don’t do that for every person I happen to run into on the street. Not even for the people I particularly like, much less those who I fail to get along with, or who downright dislike me.
So I don't know why He does it, but He does it.
He provides for our protection, our provision, our air, our existence, our water, our place to live, our jobs, our relationships, our healing, and all other facets of life.
Then He goes on to anticipate and provide for our ‘godliness’ needs as well. So He meets the needs of forgiveness, freedom, salvation, wisdom, creativity, adoption as His children, purpose, and eternal destiny.
I’m sure there are more needs that He sees than this list. This is just what I came up with in a moment of typing. But whatever needs there are, He forsees them, and meets them. He said so. He promised.
What I really wonder about is – why?
Why would He do that for me? Again, I don’t do that for even the nice people in my life. Why would He do that for me, who has rejected and failed and disappointed Him over and over? I mean, even at my best, I’m goofy and uncoordinated, yet He offers this beautiful gift of exquisite grace to me over and over.
I believe the Bible would have me believe that He does it because He loves me.
I pondered this for months, and then, just the other day, He showed me that His love for me is just like my love for my grandchildren. When that thought hit me, I gasped. I teared up. And I bowed my head.
He loves me, so He gives me everything I need for life and godliness.
Just like I love to meet the needs of my little ones, Maple, Gus, and Ame.
