You can find a lot of undervalued coins out on the market today. Sure you can get 3, 4 or 5x returns in the short term. It seems like easy money but it does require time spent doing a deep dive into new projects every day. Many utility tokens have an upper limit to their potential growth. Nobody knows how to value them correctly but most people tend to value them like equity in a company. This is not a good way to judge the value of them, but for now, this the anchoring price people will hold in their minds when looking at market cap. If your utility token is used as payment for a single DAPP, its upper valuation will be roughly the valuation people place on the company producing the DAPP. Again this is the current sentiment in the market and not the true value that should be placed on the token. Hence, the estimate of low multiple returns as a guide to future growth.
Other cryptocurrencies have unbounded growth potential. You may get 1000x returns in the long term on protocol plays like BTC, EOS, ETH, etc. It all depends on how much time/work you want to put into your investments and the time horizon on returns you are looking for. So long as you create a balanced portfolio mainly of long-term holds with unbounded upsides. Then you can gamble with smaller amounts on utility tokens depending on how much work you want to give yourself.
Just my opinion and not financial advice.
