It's startling how time flies truthfully... Reminiscing is what sticks around of the past events that occurred in our lives and that of our friends. It lived on April 24, 2022 sunday evening, my cousin held a Birthday Bash at Festac Town in an open bar that had a disco house.
We had already spoken about the turnout of the event and how the arrangements would be on that day... I made thirty-six pieces of cupcakes as a birthday present and also for his friends too. I'm not a baker lol... I paid the baker for it as requested.
That very day, I was at my hostel located on university road and I needed to be there at 5 pm Time. A few hours before that time, I went to a nail salon to dress my nails and make my eyelashes neat...it was crystal clear to me that I wasn't going for a makeover because I love looking natural.
It took me hours to get to my turn and after that, it was 4:00 pm. Neither can I wail nor smile, I played my cool to keep myself sane. I had my bath and began preparations, during those moments I opened my Uber application and looked for a nearby ride. After many quests, I received a call from a driver, and from the look of things he was serious about picking me up and I was like... “ yeah this is the person for tonight's ride ”.
A few minutes later, he was at my location, and me on the other side tidying up myself. My roomie assisted me by dropping the cupcakes at the backseat and I sat close to it for an interval check-up to avoid it looking messy and unpresentable, afterward I exchanged pleasantries with him (Uber driver) and my ride began!
I was skeptical that I wasn't going to beat the time for the event because my departure time was 5:40 pm...how on earth would I get to my destination by 5:00 pm 😳. Pardon me! haha... I just have that silly mindset because I know that somehow I imagine the time going back to the stipulated time 😆... Nigerians are always like that!!

I became worried because there was heavy traffic and no alternative direction to the main road so we got stuck with the snail movement... A glance at my wristwatch and the time says 6:35 pm! Omoh! I shouted inside me and worries wore my face like I was crying verbatim. I initiated a soft conversation with my driver asking if he has an alternative route to get to the major road, his reply wasn't concrete enough and from there we dived into other conversations outside his work life.
We shared a little about ourselves as we kept moving much faster. Since I was worried, the conversation faded away with the notion for him to speed up. He understood that my major concern was getting to my destination. Have you been so worried that you don't concern yourself with how you feel but rather with what your brother/friend feels?... Yep! That was me!
As he drove towards the primary lane, he started accelerating and humming a song in a blend of pitches. I sat upright and adjusted myself, immediately he veered towards the central highway leaving me unattended to, the impact sent me landing on the edge of the left seat. I was perplexed and my mouth opened in awe. He drove like a racer! or should I say a gangster? I left the concern of getting late and faced the concern of who is this hell of a driver😅😅.
I looked at my cupcakes and saw how messy they were. Now and then I checked them but the steady veering made the absolute judgment. The whole scene was like watching a live car race with me in it. I had no choice but to not complain anymore, I just sat still and hoped to not be involved in an accident. My little concern was unattended as he drove his way to my destination.
We got to my destination roughly around 8:00 pm and my Uber fare was not as expensive as I thought because of the traffic. I paid my fare and alighted from the bus. I called my cousin to come pick me up from the gate and after much settling, it was obvious to me that they hadn't started at all and I was like seriously??... All my worries huh?.?... Gone to waste!!
After my entrance, everyone visitors with the celebrant started coming in, and after a few minutes, the event started. We had three large squared tables arranged jointly and seats too. I was not competent to take a good photo but my cousin did a good clip of me. This was my uber ride experience for the weekend.
