Along with this sacred music, in the villages and castles, there is a profane, imitative music, music of troubadours, from the Provencal courts, which penetrates the palaces of Tuscany. It consists of very simple accompaniment melodies, whose sustains and flats reach the same heart; in ditties, madrigals and even counts among its productions as a gallant operetta, this music gives rise to forms of phrases to various voices, the rondo and the ballad. It is an "art" made for an audience, with scenes that represent life, love, hunting, heroes. The important thing in this music is the melodic invention, not the symbolism of the thematic development.
How little it costs to build castles in the air and what a face its destruction is!
