Yeah the smog is a real problem especially in Xian. On a 2008 trip I got VERY sick with what felt like the worst flu ever from smog inhalation. Every time I would blow my nose a whole mess of black soot like stuff would come out. I like visiting China but wouldn't want to stay more than a couple of weeks unless it was in the countryside or in the mountians.
