It may seem strange, but the best time to pray is when you do not feel like praying. That's it! It is precisely at that moment that we need to kill our spiritual hunger.
The lack of desire to pray is very similar to the unwillingness to eat when you are sick. A sick person, the less she eats, the less hungry she is, but if she does not make an effort, she weakens more and more, and may even die. In the same way it is the prayer for the Christian. For what the apostle Paul exhorted: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
The Bible does not say to pray only when we have will. And to be honest, if we depend on our desire, we will never pray. But it is necessary. And if we obey the order of "praying all the time," we will feel a constant thirst for the presence of God. The psalmist David lived this experience: "As the deer roars for the currents of the waters, so cries out soul for you, O God" (Psalm 42: 1).
In the same way, the best time to read the Word of God is when you prefer anything other than opening the Bible. I am not saying for you to leave a job in the middle and much less to stop paying attention in the class. I am saying that you should not obey your flesh, that you are accommodated and seek to escape commitments to God. Just as the sick person needs to strive to eat, you need the same effort to read and meditate on the Scriptures. Without the Bible, the probability of making a wrong decision and exchanging the best for the worst is very great.
There is no spiritual growth without the Word of God. Have you seen a child develop without being fed correctly? In the beginning, she can even reject some types of food, but after a lot of persistence, she begins to eat, learns to like and not stops. This same principle must be used for our spiritual development. See what it says in Psalm 1: "Blessed is he who does not follow the counsel of the wicked, not imitate the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers, his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law meditates day and night is like a tree planted by streams of water: it produces fruit and its leaves do not wither, everything that does flourishes! "(Psalm 1: 1-3).
If praying and reading the Bible are already too heavy for some, imagine going to church! Sometimes he's so tired, do not you think? I myself felt unmotivated many times in going to the services. Afterwards, however, I perceived what it takes to stay away from communion with the brothers, because in the church we hear the Word, we praise God and we are spiritually edified. Then I learned that the less we want to go to church, the more we need to go! The Bible says: "Do not fail to fulfill us as a church after some are in the habit, but exhorting one another, even more as the day draws near" (Hebrews 10:25).
That being the case, if we choose to kill our flesh and go after the things that nourish our spirit, we will remain strong in faith and with an insatiable hunger for God. "That's why I say, we live by the Spirit, and will not follow the desires of the flesh for the flesh want what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit is against the flesh that are in conflict with each other, .. so that you do not he does what he wants "(Galatians 5: 16-17).
