During World War 2 these tank traps, consisting of several adjacent rows of large stones, were used as part of the defense strategy by Finns against the Soviet offenses to slow down the mobilization of heavy equipment, especially tanks. This particular tank trap is located in Nurmijärvi (you can see the accurate place in Steemitworldmap) which is also the place where my already passed grandmother grew up with his sister, who also died just recently and got buried at the small graveyard of the village. Me and my dad were there for her funeral, so on the side we went looking the surroundings there whilst our stay in Lieksa, from where Nurmijärvi is just 30 kilometers away.
From here it is only a short distance to the front defense line of Salpalinja, which – according to a citation I found online – was the biggest working site ever in Finland; for one man there would've been work for 70 000 years. No wonder looking at these stones, some of them 2 meters high, and probably several tons in weight each.
