Macro Photography in The Park...

London is not a particularly cold place. In winter we sometimes get some frost, and in a lucky year (or unlucky depending on if you have to try and travel anywhere...) we might get some snow. The morning that I took my entry for this week's competition, we had an absolutely amazing hoar frost. The whole park was completely white with amazing ice crystals. It was very cold and beautiful, and a really unusual sight in the capital.

This is a photograph of some frosty reeds, glittering in the winter sunlight. It reminds me of Christmas decorations. There is a festive feel to the way the light is interacting with the ice. Mother Nature's infinitely beautiful version of tinsel.

For context, here's a landscape photograph that I took on the same morning:

The light was amazing with the low winter sunshine and the cold blue shadows.

I was recently asked what I did when there was no mist, and this is rare example of a photograph of mine, where there is a clear view to the horizon. :)

Thanks for looking!
